On Saturday August 8 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday August 9 from 12noon to 5pm there will be a very special celebration weekend in the form of a flower festival. The theme is “Hats”, of all sorts and shapes so there will be plenty of scope for the imagination of the talented team of ladies and gentlemen flower arrangers. Pictures of the recent refurbishment to the church will be on display to showing the before and after work. Light refreshments will be available during both days.

On the Sunday August 9 there will be a service of celebration at 10.30am to give thanks for the reopening of St Johns after the refurbishment of the floor and heating system, everyone is invited to join in. Refreshments, cake and social time will follow the service. Throughout the afternoon the church will remain open for you to visit the flower festival.

The following weekend will also be a busy one for St John the Baptist church as they will be holding their annual summer fair on Saturday August 15 in the church and churchyard from 12noon to 3pm. All the games of chance and various stalls , plus as always yummy refreshments. There will also be another opportunity to view the before and after display of the refurbishment.

CAR TREASURE HUNT: Sedlescombe and District Garden society next event is a car treasure hunt on Saturday August 29 organised by Rod Eldridge. All participants to meet at the village hall car park by 2pm with pen in hand. The route should last about one and half to two hours, but this will depend upon how good you are at answering the clues. The route will be finishing at a local hostelry for obvious reasons. By the way the police have been informed of the event and will be looking out for “stray and lost” motorists on the day. The cost will be £3.00 per car so you are advised to pack as many “knowledgeable” people in the car as possible as there will be prizes for first, second and third winners. The event is open to members and guests only so maybe this is the time to join if you would like to take part in the event? So why not contact Rod now on 01424 870983 and let him know you will be there, it should be a fun afternoon.

KEEP YOUR VEHICLE SAFE: Police Community Support Officer, Emma Phillips

Please can you be aware that we have seen an increased break ins to vehicles. It is not just vehicles that have been left open that are being targeted. Windows are being smashed to gain entry. You are reminded not to leave valuables in your car, bags on display etc. It is mainly car parks and lay-bys used by dog walkers that have been targeted in Rother, but not entirely. Anyone who sees anyone acting suspiciously call 999 or 101 at the time.

UPS AND DOWNS: After the excitement of the village fayre with all its fun and laughter from visiting family and friends, this past weekend has been a sad one here at Asselton House. I do not usually write much personally but on this occasion I must just mention and thank Tim Pitman at Senlac veterinary centre in Battle for all the professional care that he gave to our beautiful, faithful old friend especially last Friday. It has taken me a long time to really understand why people get so upset when they lose a pet but finally I get it, I can honestly say I get it!
