SPRING FAYRE ON THE GREEN: This Saturday May 16 the Spring Fayre will take place on the Green. The Pipes and Drums will again open the Fayre at 1pm followed by the children from the local school dancing around the Maypole at 1.30pm. This will be followed by ‘twirlers’ which is a group of children from the school. ‘Loose Ends’ is a first class group who will play popular music for about one and a half hours finishing with the pipes and drums again and then the raffle will be drawn. It has been arranged for a town crier to open the Fayre. This year we have been able to obtain a pillory for those brave people can poke their heads through to receive a few wet sponges. There will be plenty of stalls and games to enjoy with refreshments, sandwiches and cakes available throughout the afternoon. There is no charge for entry but raffle tickets are on sale in the Post Office.

“PUTTING ON THE RITZ”: Tickets are still available for this event. Sedlescombe and District Flower club will once again be hosting their elegant afternoon tea event at the village hall on Saturday May 23. If a choice of tea, freshly made sandwiches, delicious cakes and scones come to mind then this is the event for you. This proved a very popular event last time it was on offer so please do not delay in applying for your tickets especially if you would like to reserve a table to share with friends or family. There will be live music throughout the afternoon and a super raffle including flower arrangements and tea related prizes. Tickets priced at £8.50 are now on sale from Janet on 01424 773708 or Judy on 01424 870344

QUIZ NIGHT: There will be a Quiz Night in the Village Hall in Sedlescombe on Friday May 29. 7:00pm for 7:30pm. Teams of 6 are invited to come and join in at £8.00 per head. This includes a Fish and Chip supper, tea and coffee. To avoid missing out on a very enjoyable evening, please contact Andrea on 01424 871 625 to book a table.

THANK YOU FROM ANTHONY GANLY: I write to thank the residents of Sedlescombe most sincerely for their overwhelming support in the recent District Council elections. I promise to continue to positively represent our community in all matters of concern.

In the light of some misinformation regarding my position on the Neighbourhood Plan circulated just prior to the election may I say this:

I fully support the Neighbourhood Plan process as I believe it will give residents some power over development in Sedlescombe; what can be built and where. Over the last two years I have attended numerous meetings on the subject both in Sedlescombe and with planning officers at the Town Hall in Bexhill. Residents however should be aware of the present position. The NP is required by statute to be in “general conformity” with the RDC Core Strategy. It is not optional. It is a legal requirement. For many, many months planning officers have been telling the NP Steering Group that the current plan in its present form is not in general compliance. The government Examiner has said much the same and has suggested that changes should be made. The District Council has received the Examiner’s report and must now decide whether to accept his recommendations and put the Neighbourhood Plan forward for referendum Rother DC said that once the elections were out of the way it will discuss the Examiner’s recommendations with the NP Steering Group before considering the most approriate - and policy compliant - way forward. I shall attend that meeting and hope that the Steering Group will also work to achieve a Neighbourhood Plan that both Rother and Sedlescombe residents can support.”

SEDLESCOMBE’S GOT TALENT: Please note that the above event has had to be postponed and the new date is Friday September 18 in Sedlescombe village hall from 7pm. It is not too early though to book your place in the show. Two years ago, when it was last held, there was a wealth of talent that came forward to compete for the £100 first prize. There is no entry fee but spaces are limited to give everyone a fair chance to shine on stage. Do you love to entertain? Then come and be part of the show. Nearer the date audience tickets will be on sale, so please mark your diaries to either take part or come along to enjoy the evening. Organised by the Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust. For further details or to book your place to perform on the night please call Jean Dann on 882438.
