COFFEE MORNING/ MINI MARKET: There is plenty going on in aid of St John the Baptist church over the next week, their next monthly coffee morning and mini market is on Thursday September 4 in the village hall from 10am to 11.30am. All the usual stalls will be there, home baking, books, jigsaws, bric a brac, plants and bird food and as always coffee tea, cheese scone or buttered buns for refreshment. No entry charge. They look forward to your company to meet and chat. Last month was a bumper one lets see if we can repeat it.

CREAM TEA AFTERNOON: On Saturday September 6, there will be the annual Cream Tea afternoon in the Rectory Garden, Church Hill by kind permission of Father Kevin, from 3pm onwards. £3 will buy you a homemade yummy cream tea. Fingers crossed for a fine day unlike the recent Bank holiday however please note, if wet the event will take place opposite in the church. Please go along and bring your friends, raising funds for the upkeep of St John the Baptist church.

FAMILY SERVICE: On Sunday September 7, everyone is welcome to attend the monthly family service at St John the Baptist church starting at 10.30am.

TRADITIONAL FETE: Whatlington village host their traditional fete, on the field behind their village hall, on the Whatlington Road this Saturday August 30 at 1.30pm to 4pm. There will be many children’s activities, bric a brac, barbeque and beer tent and a chance to see Sussex stoolball in action. A great family day out for all to enjoy. All welcome.

TILLING GREEN COMMUNITY CENTRE: The Rye partnership, together with Sussex Coast College leads on the provision of 10 hour adult education and family learning sessions in Rye and surrounding rural areas. Courses are designed to meet the needs of the rural and urban communities that we serve, with an emphasis on helping members of the community to reach their potential and to follow a life-long pathway of learning. Courses for October are First Aid and Practical Gardening. First Aid will be run over two days the October 7 and 14 at 9.30am to 3pm. A certificate at the end of this course will be available. Practical Gardening will run for five weeks starting on Monday October 20 in the afternoon from 1pm to 3pm. Topics to include the following:- pruning, propagation, vegetable growing, fruit growing, cut flower production, greenhouse gardening, container gardening, organic gardening, wildlife gardening, garden design. Other courses that will be running throughout the next academic year will be:-Basic IT, Intermediate IT, Employability Skills, Conflict Management, Admin, How to research your Family Tree, Face Painting, Photography. Your first 10 hour course will be free of charge. After that if you wish to take part in any of the other course a small charge will be made.
