This Saturday April 26, Sedlescombe and District Garden Society hold their Spring Show at the Village Hall. The theme of the show is “the 1940’s” as part of their 70th anniversary celebrations. In addition, Lin Saines (until recently the keeper of the herb garden at Rye Castle) will be on hand to answer questions on herbs and she will also be providing a variety of tasty foods, made with herbs that can easily be grown in your garden, along with recipe sheets. Good luck to everyone entering the classes for judging. The Show is open to the public at 2.00 p.m. Admission 50p so please go along and see what can be achieved locally in your garden and home.

The Annual parish Assembly takes place on Tuesday April 29 at the village hall doors open ay 6.30pm for a7pm start. there will be short presentations and a question and answer session on any issue that you would like to raise. Free raffles, table displays from local businesses and refreshments will be provided. All residents are welcome to attend. Your views on the neighbourhood plan are needed, so do not forget to return your consultation form by May 5. The plan is available at www.sedlescombe.org.uk, in the village shop and other places around the village, please see the village notice board. Completed forms should be put in the yellow box in the shop. If you would be interested in taking on the role of Parish clerk the council is currently advertising for a replacement/responsible Financial officer/website manager as we are to lose our Parish clerk, after nearly 40 years of service to the community Pauline Raymond will be retiring at the end of June. On Thursday May 1, the monthly Coffee morning and mini market takes place at the village hall from 10am until 11.30am.A chance to meet old friends and greet new ones, there will be as always , cakes, pies and preserves on offer also bric a brac, books, food for your feathered friends and plants on sale. the scales will be there for those who wish to check how much weight they have gained with the Easter chocolate – all in confidence of course! Tea, coffee, cheese scones and buttered buns for £1 from the refreshments team in the kitchen. Your company is looked forward to, all proceeds to church funds.

Did you get to visit our St John the Baptist parish church this Easter weekend for services or to view the lilies donated in memory of loved ones? One hundred and sixty lilies in total were donated and beautifully arranged by the very talented flower ladies who volunteer their time not just for this occasion but throughout the year to adorn the building. Even on the wet and windy Sunday afternoon a few hardy visitors turned out for tea and cake, and on the Monday many more visitors followed to view the floral arrangements and take refreshment after walking up church hill. A heart felt thanks from the church to everyone involved in the weekend and also to Linda who scribed so beautifully the names on the role of honour for all to see, a real labour of love on her part.

St Michaels Hospice will be starting their Open garden season this year on Tuesday May 6, with the opening of Mountfield Court Johns Cross TN36 5JP. For the third year running Asselton cakes is pleased and proud to be supplying all the cake and scones served at the 2014 gardens. Full details of all the gardens involved including Sedlescombe gardens to be open this year on may 20, can be found in booklets that are now available at the village shop for a token donation of 50p.

And finally, how wonderful it was to see Sedlescombe Parish Church full to overflowing to celebrate Easter Sunday. It was particularly good to see the number of young families, and the children enjoying the traditional Easter Egg Hunt after the service.
