Coffee Morning and Mini-Market, sponsored by the Parish Church, returns to Sedlescombe Village Hall on Thursday September 5 at 10.00a.m to 11.30a.m. As well as coffee and a scone, there will be stalls selling cakes and jams, bric-a -brac, books, plants and bird food. For this month only, there will be no weighing machine, apologies to all disappointed weight watchers. As always, you will be made very welcome at the Coffee Morning.

Next Saturday September 7 there will be a fantastic Boot Fayre in Sedlescombe Village Hall, TN33 OQN, open to the public from 2-4pm. There will be many stall holders selling their goods, and also a sale of good quality toys that will be sold at an excellent rate. Many of these are wooden toys, girl, boys, dressing up clothes and wheelie bugs. This is due to the sad closure of a toddler group so come along and don’t miss out. Doors open 2pm with refreshments available throughout the afternoon. All are welcome, entrance fee 50p.

St John the Baptist church also has an event that day, Saturday September 7, they will be hosting a cream tea afternoon at 3pm in the Rectory garden, opposite the church. If the weather should prove inclement then the venue will be changed to go ahead in the church itself. Entrance is just £2.50 to include cream tea and cake. You are invited to relax in the garden, meet old and make new friends during the afternoon. For more details please phone 870688.

A future date for your diary, there is to be a flower festival at our parish church, St John the Baptist, over the weekend of September 28 and 29. They will also be Harvest festival on Sunday September 29 with harvest supper following evensong, more details will follow over the next few weeks.

Are you missing some items? Then they may be part of the lost property found at the village hall looking for their original home. A number of items of children’s clothing, a couple of lunch boxes and an umbrella have been left in the village hall for some time. They have now been removed and if you wish to lay claim to any item, please get in touch with Pauline or Reg.Glew on 870258 Any unclaimed items remaining by the end of September will be given to a charity shop for disposal.

Another item that is not in its proper home is the large barbeque that is used at Sedlescombe village fayre. This was last seen on Saturday July 27 in the Sports Pavilion. Please could you contact Bob on 871415 to give him a date for its return so that arrangements can be made for it to go into storage. Thank you.

Sadly the village fayre at the end of July was not as well attended this year as in previous years, that along with the actual weather brought about a drop in the surplus funds that could be raised on the day and after all expenses , this was just under £900. This money will be made available to local groups and projects in the village later in the year at the Sedlescombe Societies Association Annual General Meeting in November. If you would like to apply for a small grant for your group or village project please write with details to the secretary, Judy Torrance, Asselton House, the Green Sedlescombe TN33 0QA.

It was also evident at the last meeting that many of the fayre committee had decided to not stand for next year’s committee. Their wealth of experience will be sorely missed and if a new committee is not elected in November then sadly there will be no main Sedlescombe fayre in 2014. This is a serious situation for the village, and a great shame in view of the years of work that have gone before mainly by the present committee members. As a thriving village with residents young and more mature then surely there must be some talented volunteers who could step up to carry this event forward. Please give this some serious thought as to whether you could give some of your time for your village and the people in it.

Originally as the title suggests, Sedlescombe Societies Association committee comprised of representatives of all the groups in the village but gradually over the years this has changed. Maybe there could be the possibility of bringing this idea back if groups were willing to participate with one dominate group taking overall charge of the event?

Along with their Sunday services held every Sunday at 10.30am, United Reformed Church, Chapel on the Hill at Chapel Hill Sedlescombe TN33 0QX will be hosting a “Christianity Explored Course”. This is an informal seven week course for people who would like to investigate Christianity or just brush up on the basics. It will be on a Tuesday evening commencing on September 3. This should prove an interesting experience for those taking part and that could include you, as all are welcome. Refreshments will be available during the evening.
