IF you are looking for some conversation with your coffee, then the event Ted Cornford has arranged this Saturday 14 July at the Queens Head is the one for you. There is to be a coffee morning from 11am open to anyone who would like to attend, Councillor Mike Pursglove from Pevensey Bay, local Branch Chairman of the United Kingdom Independence Party, has been invited to give a short talk and question session

Sedlescombe C.E Primary School have opened their heated outside swimming pool to the public. They are open with lifeguard in attendance every Tuesday evening from 7-8pm at a price of £3 per adult. This is open to all the public and they hope that locals will go along and enjoy an evening swim.

There is now only a week before the Sedlescombe Fayre and Flower Show, organised by Sedlescombe Societies’ Association takes place on the sports field on Saturday July 21 at 2pm. Please arrive a little earlier to listen to Hooe Village band and prepare for the parade.

This year’s show will be even bigger and better with some new attractions along with old traditional favourites. The afternoon will start with a vintage car parade, transporting the Flower princess , Ellen-Kate Whale and her two attendants Mae and Maddie Hadfield who will circle the field before alighting for the opening ceremony of the fayre, this year being performed by TV’s Clive Attrell. The cars will then park on the field for the afternoon for you to view whilst the children enjoy an afternoon of visiting the stalls and games.

The Sedlescombe and District Garden Society’s Summer Show will be part of the day on the Sports Field. Everyone, members and non-members, is encouraged to enter for as many Show classes as they wish. If you cannot find your Show Schedule, copies of the Schedule & entry forms are available from the Sedlescombe Village Store. Please remember to hand your entry form either into the Village Store or into 2, Gorselands by Tuesday 17 July at the latest.

During the afternoon, the arena will be busy with a display from K9 dog club based in Sedlescombe, Childrens Fancy Dress competition themed “Under the Sea”, Children’s free dance time and presentation of SDGS prizes. Hooe village Band will also be playing throughout the afternoon.

The fancy dress parade will take place at 2.30pm, so if you know someone who would like to enter please register with Karen Dann at the arena on the day. There are two classes, Under nines and under sixes with prizes for each winner and runners up in each section, sponsored by Asselton cakes. Who will be the best from “Under the Sea” ?

There will be plenty of stalls, games and activities including skittles, three in a pan, tombola, bric a brac, cakes, raffle, wildlife, wheel of fortune, coconut shy, hook the duck and bouncy castles not forgetting splat the rat. There will as always be a grand draw with prizes donated by our generous local businesses

Many local charities will also be manning their own stalls, Sedlescombe Church, JDRF, Pestalozzi, Royal British Legion ESDA, Sedlescombe preschool, Darvell community, SAFE, Chapel Hill URC, Friends of Sedlescombe church, Feline friends, and Sedlescombe players. A very varied selection of crafts and businesses will be attending this year including garden machinery, corn dollies, demonstration of jewellery making, phoenix cards, fossils and gemstones, handmade cards, with book signing by Julia Chapman.

On the next three stalls you will be able to find something to plant in your garden, buy a hat so you don’t get sunstroke and then get a bottle of wine to relax with after your effort so make sure you visit Ivy House nursery, Hatrix and Carr Taylor vineyard on the day.

Food will be in abundance with the WI tea tent providing refreshments and cake and our barbecue cooking delicious local meats. Ice cream is always a popular choice for a sunny afternoon so fingers crossed for some good weather.

As you can imagine there is lots of work going on behind the scenes at the moment to make the day a success.

Thank you to all those who have volunteered to help before, during and after the event with setting up, manning and taking down but we really need a few more hands to spread the load. Battle Air Cadets have volunteered to assist with the parking this year and they will also be manning a stall providing information on the day to any young person interested in joining.

If you are able to donate towards the fayre, we would be pleased to accept any tombola prizes, these can be delivered to 2, Forge Cottages, The Green. Good quality bric a brac is also required, please call 871415 to arrange a drop off time. Cakes and preserves would also be most welcome on the day. Thank you for your support for this event.

There is now only a few weeks left of the Open Gardens for St Michael’s hospice which are open on Tuesdays, the next one is July 17 at Brook farm, Broad Street, Icklesham TN36 4AT from 10.30am to 4pm. Once again, programmes with full details are on sale at Sedlescombe Stores.
