Sedlescombe Spring fayre takes place this Saturday April 28, and there will lots of activity on and around the Green and the Queens Head. Everything will be open from 1pm starting with 1066 Pipes and Drums who will be playing in support of the day. There will be 1066 spinners so you can try your hand at this traditional craft. Messy England will be attending, with them you will be able to decorate your own piece of china, perhaps you will be trying out a design to commemorate something for the Queens Jubilee or an event in your family. There will be plenty of other craft stalls, including plants, honey, hand made cards, jewellery, fossils and gemstones with games for everyone to enjoy, not forgetting the Maypole dancers from our school. This year there will be a refreshment marquee so come and have afternoon tea with your friends and family and enjoy this unique day in Sedlescombe.

I have received a special item from Kimberley Glen. Here she explains about a special trip she hopes to be making next year : I am going to Kenya, Nairobi for 10 days in February 2013 through the College Sussex Coast College Hastings. I am going out there to be a teaching assistant in one of the local schools to help teach core subjects. African Adventures is a charity that helps people in Kenya, they base their trips on volunteers to help support communities by building community buildings, teaching sport, community work, or what I am doing, teaching in a school.. African Adventures try and give the children resources and skills to help improve their life.

To be able to help the charity I will be doing fundraising events around the village, such as a stall at Sedlescombe Spring Fayre to raise money for the charity. Please come and see me on the day . If you would like to make a donation at any time to my cause there are charity boxes in the local pub and shop.

Sedlescombe ‘s Annual parish Assembly. More than a hundred people attended this year’s Annual Parish Assembly on 17 April 12 with a number of Village organisations and businesses having display tables in the Hall. Speakers were County Councillor Jones and District Councillor Ganly. Pat Martin was presented with a “bottle” from the Council on his retirement. He was the Parish Council’s longest-serving councillor having joined almost 30 years ago. He was thanked for much practical assistance to the community as well as his work as Chairman of the Council’s Planning Committee. Valerie Wright, who was chairing her last meeting before her retirement, was presented with a painting and flowers. Valerie has been a member for 17 years, the last 13 years as chairman. During her chairmanship the Parish Council was involved with purchase of the land for the new village hall and the building of a new sports pavilion. Several local residents raised problems with parking in the Village and some suggested ways of solving them.

There will be a Parish council meeting in Committee Room 2 of the Hall on Tuesday 1 May starting at 6pm. The agenda will be posted on this website, one of the items to be discussed will the vacant car lot that is currently for sale. If you are interested in putting your views forward and thereby participating in the outcome of this and other matters around the village then attending the meeting is a must for you.

Sedlescombe Primary School is due to hold a fantastic fund raising event. They are hosting a wonderful evening for their May Ball on Friday May 4 to be held at Leeford Place Hotel in Whatlington. There will be a delicious three course supper available with to finish dancing to the Pete Prescott Band. The next monthly Coffee Morning and Mini-Market, sponsored by the Parish Church, will be held in Sedlescombe Village Hall on Thursday 3 May at 10.00am until 11.30am. As well as coffee and cake, there will be stalls selling cakes, jams etc, bric-a-brac, books, plants and bird food, a raffle and, for 50p, a chance to be weighed - accurately and in confidence. A warm welcome awaits you.

Sedlescombe and District Flower club are holding a table sale on Saturday May 19 at Sedlescombe village hall. If you are interested in hiring a table perhaps as part of your spring cleaning for 2012, tables are available at £7.50. To book please contact Sheila Benson on 01797 223927

This week is road safety week in the village. Demi, our PCSO will be performing speed and road tax checks, looking at parking issues and working with residents and visitors trying to resolve some of the problems we may encounter so we can all enjoy the freedom that our vehicles bring without endangering the lives of others. Care and consideration seem to be two words that immediately spring to mind.

Thank you to everyone that attended the Sports Association dinner dance last Friday. I think I can safely say that everyone had a really good evening judging by the comments and also the dancing that took place. Special thanks to Claire and Leigh from the Queens Head, Mr Pollio from the Brickwall Hotel, Derek and Monique Wright from Kester House for their generous donations to the cause. All profits from the evening will be used for the upkeep of the sports field and pavilion.
