Sedlescombe village voice - March 30

Tonight, March 30 at 7.30pm in Sedlescombe village hall, the Swing Street Band, a twelve piece band, will be helping us Swing into Spring with great music and songs. If you were looking for a night out there are a few tickets available at the village stores priced at £15 which includes a delicious supper or there may be a chance to buy on the door. A licensed bar will be available run by Mike Davies and John Cook. All profits will benefit our parish church through the Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust. Sedlescombe & District Garden Society Spring Show is on Saturday March 31 at 2 p.m. in Sedlescombe Village Hall.

The Society will be greeting the arrival of spring with its customary Show. The intention is to dispel the grey of winter with a welcome splash of spring colours. The Show will be open to all from 2 p.m, with prizes awarded at 3.15 p.m. Admission is 50p for adults, & children can come free of charge.

If you have entered a class please bring your entry to the Village Hall on the morning of the Show , from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Judging will start at 10.30 a.m.

There is an indoor boot fayre on Sunday April 1 at Sedlescombe Village Hall from 9am till 12noon. Doors open at 9am, entrance 50p. Refreshments will be available.

There are still a few stalls available to hire, at £10 per table with set up for sellers from 8am. Please contact Karen Dann to reserve your space on 01424 883 550. All proceeds raised will go towards Sedlescombe Primary School.

The next monthly Coffee Morning and Mini-Market, sponsored by the Parish Church, will be held in Sedlescombe Village Hall on Thursday 5 April at 10.00am until 11.30am. As well as coffee and cake, there will be stalls selling cakes, jams etc, bric-a-brac, books, plants and bird food, a raffle and, for 50p, a chance to be weighed, accurately and in confidence! A warm welcome awaits.

We have been very busy lately with much sporting and music success, as well as our Ofsted Inspection and our Diocesan Inspection. I am delighted to tell you that we have had two very successful inspections within the last three weeks.The results of the Ofsted inspection, which was conducted using the new and much tougher 2012 Inspection framework,is that the inspectors agreed with our own self-evaluation in all areas of our work and they state very firmly that WE ARE A GOOD SCHOOL. They have been very positive about our school and the developments that we have put in place since the previous Inspection in November 1998. The results of the Diocesan Inspection will be made public after Easter, but I can tell you that we are truly delighted with the judgments and comments made about our school. More news to follow.

I feel very proud of our school, of the hard work of all members of our staff team, of the children and of the Governing Body, and of our links with the church. In addition to this, I am very grateful for the help and support we receive from our families. We also thank the village community for their help and support to their village school.

Our choir took part in the Hastings Festival Choir Competition on March 9, singing two songs - ‘Morning Song’ and ‘We do Jazz’. The children sang beautifully and came fourth with a special merit certificate. Our Year 5 children entered in the “wider opportunities section” of the Festival, playing three pieces on the recorders - all 30 children. They played incredibly well, and came second overall with an honours certificate.

We are thrilled to learn this week that our school has earned the highest aggregate score for the Hastings Festival 2012, and been awarded a special cup. Congratulations to our choir and to our Year 5 children in Class Picasso.

Our football team has had huge success this month too, winning the Claverham Primary Schools Tournament on March 10. They have also won the local Collins Cup tournament playing against some very large schools from Hastings and St. Leonards. We have some superb talent in our team this year. Well done to our school football team.

The netball team came third in the Claverham Tournament and have enjoyed some very good matches, winning against Staplecross recently.I am sure you read about our Year 5 pupil, Emily, who aged 9 was in the Battle Observer recently with her amazing skills in Karate - she won the Uckfield event for 9 - 16 year olds,being the youngest entrant.

Do call in to theVillage Post Office and collect one of our free newspapers - called the ‘Sedlescombe Smiles’ and enjoy reading about our class trips, fund- raising events and lots more school news from term 4. We produce this newspaper each term, and are very pleased to share this with you.

We will have more exciting news to share with you after Easter - about our school swimming pool, our PTA events, our Strawberry Fayre, our new amazing Yurt, the Diocesan Inspection results, and our summer show called ‘Go for Gold!’ on the Olympic theme.

Don’t forget your loved ones this Easter, please order your lilies at £2 each in memory of loved ones to decorate our parish church at Eastertide. These can be ordered by phoning Sylvia 870688 or Margaret 870808. Those to be remembered will be displayed on the role of honour next weekend when the church will be open for tea, coffee and cake on Easter Sunday April 8, 10am – 4pm and Bank holiday Monday April 9, 10am -4pm. Please bring your family and friends to enjoy the beautiful flowers.
