Shoreham lifeboat called out twice in two days

SHOREHAM lifeboat was called out twice in two days to stricken vessels.

The offshore lifeboat was launched last Sunday to a broken-down 64ft Sunseeker power boat.

The vessel had suffered engine and steering failure en route to Brighton and had anchored near Brighton Pier to wait for help. The lifeboat towed her into Brighton Marina to be repaired.

Last Monday, the offshore lifeboat was launched again, to a 42ft ketch about two miles off Shoreham harbour entrance. The vessel had become entangled in fishing gear and had a fouled propeller. She was towed to Brighton Marina.

l A former care home in Southwick could be knocked down and flats built on the site, if Adur planners give the go-ahead.

West Sussex County Council wants planning permission to demolish Elmcroft, in Croft Avenue, and dispose of the land to build 12 two-bedroom flats. The application also includes plans for 14 parking spaces.

The plans are available to view at the Help Point, Adur District Council, Ham Road, Shoreham, BN43 6PR.

Comments should be sent to the head of planning and community at Adur council by May 4.
