Sidley Goods Yard go ahead

PLANS to redevelop an area of Sidley Goods Yard into commercial units have been strongly backed by Rother councillors.

Members of the planning committee gave permission for two industrial buildings and offices to be built on the brownfield site, south-west of the former railway bridge at Holliers Hill, when they met last Thursday. A new access road would serve the new units and existing businesses on the site.

The Rother District Council application would see a 582 square metre industrial building capable of being divided into three units, a 970 square metre building which can be divided into five units and a block for 18 'incubator office' units.

Cllr Deirdre Williams said: "I think this is really good news. It is good news for Sidley but it is also good news for Rother. we desperately need these start up units to give people, if they are not already in business, the chance to start up. it will tidy up an untidy area which has been an eye sore for a long, long time."

Cllr Paul Lendon added: "My ward borders it (the goods yard) and I have come from a presentation this morning on the new high school which has lots of young people looking for jobs. This will be great for Bexhill."
