Signs point the way to a brighter future for Littlehampton

But first, they will have to find their way to the Look & Sea Centre, in Surrey Street, where Arun District Council is holding a consultation on Wednesday (April 23), from 3.30-6.30pm.

The centre is one of the attractions which it’s hoped will benefit from better signposting in and around the town centre.

The consultation is part of a review being carried out by Placemarque Ltd on behalf of Arun. It will give people an opportunity to comment on destinations which need to be signed, key pedestrian routes around the town, proposed locations for new signs, and the design of new maps and signs.

An Arun spokeswoman said the aim was to look at existing signs in the town centre and waterfronts and see how they could be improved ‘to give visitors a better understanding of what Littlehampton has to offer, help them navigate the town more easily, and to hopefully boost visitor numbers to key attractions’.

Littlehampton Traders’ Partnership is backing the project, Chairman Simon Vickers said: “This is a very positive step in linking the town centre to the seafront through street signs and mapping.”

Arun council leader Gillian Brown, who is responsible for economic regeneration, said: “Our intention is that if visitors are able to navigate their way in and around the town centre and seafront more easily, this will bring extra custom and business to traders in the town centre, and visitor attractions and traders on the seafront and waterfront.”
