Sister Mary is voted best in Britain at caring for the elderly

A care home manager in Bognor Regis has been chosen as the best in Britain.

Sister Mary Breslin collected the accolade at the 2008 national care awards.

Its judges commended her work at St Joseph's Residential Home in Albert Road by saying: "...there was clear evidence of energy, innovation, forward thinking and creative problem-solving which made her stand out as a hugely inspirational role model.

"Her willingness to promote and share best practice internationally was also commended."

Sister Mary, who has been at St Joseph's for 28 years, said: "I feel happy to have won the award.

"I enjoy everything about my job. It's about giving the residents the best possible care they can have and letting them live the life they want to live."

The home has 22 residents and about 25 staff and volunteers.

They get involved in a range of activities to provide plenty of life and enjoyment.

This includes attending music concerts, trips to Lourdes and having performances in the home from Covent Garden opera singers.

Well-known actor and TV presenter Tony Robinson presented Sister Mary with her trophy.

The national care award '“ organised by the Caring Times '“ are in their tenth year and attracted more entries than ever for the anniversary.

The evening took place at the Hilton London Metropolis Hotel and supported the work of the Alzheimer's Society.
