Slight dip in GCSE marks for Gazette area’s schools

SLEEPLESS nights and years of hard work all culminated for students across the Gazette area as they collected their GCSE results.

Hundreds of year-11s at The Littlehampton Academy and The Angmering School picked up the GCSE grades.

For many, Thursday’s results (August 22)symbolised the next step of their lives with countless being accepting into to college or sixth-form.

Results at The Angmering School mirrored the national picture of a slight decline, as tougher marking took its toll.

Five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, were achieved by 56 per cent of students, compared with 59 per cent in 2012, a record year.

David Brixey, head teacher said: “Yet again, our students have achieved very well in their GCSEs.

“This year group have worked hard in their time at Angmering and have made a strong contribution to the wider life of the school.”

While at The Littlehampton Academy, the outlook was similar.

The marks revealed academy students receiving at least five A* to C grades was marginally below the national average of 68.1 per cent, with only 67 per cent achieving this figure in Littlehampton.

Statistics for those earning the benchmark of at least five A* to C, including English and maths, also fell by seven per cent from last year’s record mark of 50 per cent.
