Smoke scare forces flight to land at Gatwick Airport

A flight was forced to land at Gatwick Airport this afternoon (December 2).

Bmi flight BM1826 from Frankfurt to Bristol was diverted to the airport after a warning light came on in the cockpit indicating there was smoke coming from the passenger toilet.

The plane landed safely at 5.30pm.

A spokesman for bmi said: “bmi regional can confirm that flight BM1826, en route from Frankfurt to Bristol, made a diversionary landing at London Gatwick today at 1730 after a warning light indicated smoke in the passenger lavatory.

“The aircraft landed safely and arrangements are now being made to enable our passengers to complete their journey.

“We regret any inconvenience arising but safety is our first priority and our flight crew acted in line with our procedures. An engineering check carried out on landing found no indication of any technical issue with the aircraft.”
