SNOW: Power failures, School closures for West Sussex, rubbish collections, train times and traffic information, - updated

DUE to heavy snow today (Wednesday, January 6) and last night, a number of schools have been closed by West Sussex County Council.

Power down

Residents in Findon have been left without power after blue sparks shot 10ft in the air on Tuesday (January 5).

Home owners in Findon Road were shocked after hearing a loud bang at 10pm and then seeing sparks jumping in the air before the electricity cut out.

Police and fire crews blocked the area off.

Chris Wright, 35, of Findon Road, had just got in from coaching the Worthing Thunder's under 18's training side when he heard the loud noise.

He said: "It was scary stuff. Blue sparks were shooting 10ft in the air.

"I am surprised the fire brigade got quite so close."

The power cut on Tuesday night carried on into today (Wednesday, January 6) and is the second one the residents have experienced in the last two weeks following a power cut out on Christmas Day after gas men mistakenly cut through electricity cables.

Closed schools

All West Sussex Adult Education courses have been cancelled this week, including Saturday, January 9.
