Society starts diamond year with top standard show

Deciding the winners, Paul Dalby said it was a delight to judge and he was very impressed with the diversity of entries at this time of year.

He chose a beautiful display of white polyanthus as Best in Show, which earned Pat Joslin the Adeline Gilligan Trophy.

Jim Gray won the Terry Clough Cup for most points in the daffodil classes and Sue Carruthers was awarded the Victoria Cup for the best floral arrangement.

The Malcolm Ford Trophy went to Gwenda Ford for a vase of garden flowers of one kind and Chris Hicks was awarded the Mixed Garden Flowers Cup.

Gwyneth Klemenz won the Bateman Cup for a group of three pot plants and the Spring Cup for most points in show was split between Sue Rayner and Gwenda Ford.

Other class winners were Mrs W. Peters, Mrs E. Green, Mr J. Clarke, Mrs S. Smith, Mr P. Clear, Mr B. Rolfe, Mrs M. Welch, Mr J. Franklin, Mrs S. Barker, Mr P. Rayner, Mrs B. Hardman and Mr R. Norton Wight.

The homecraft section, which was judged by Sue Halstead, was also split between Sue Rayner and Linda Gray, who took two classes each.

Ferring Horticultural Society’s next event is the annual plant sale on Saturday, May 13 at Ferring Village Hall.
