Lucy said: “I was sorting some books out that we no longer need as my kids have outgrown them and Dexter (my 5 year old) asked me what I was doing with all the books.

“I said about doing a car boot sale and he came back with ‘Can we sell them and give the money to those poor people on the TV that have nothing after the earthquake?’

“It brought a tear to my eye that he had even thought about doing something so thoughtful.

“So over the last couple of weeks we have cleared out all of Dexters old toys and we are going to hold a garage sale.”

Dexter, a pupil at Castlewood Primary School in Southwater, has been asking relatives, friends and neighbours of they have any to donate to his sale.

The first earthquake hit Nepal April 25. According to international aid charity Oxfam more than 8,000 people were killed and more than 14,000 injured.

A second earthquake struck on May 12, killing an additional 65 people.

The United Nations estimates eight million people across the country are affected by the disaster - more than a quarter of the population. Over 750,000 houses have been destroyed or damaged.
