Sports staff from a Bognor Regis school shared their enthusiasm

THREE members of staff at a Bognor Regis school have inspired children on another continent through sport.

The trio from The Regis School spent a week in Uganda combining their experience as a sports school with the message of this summer’s Olympics.

Principal David Jones, director of sport Mel Walton and Sarah Knowlden, from the school’s PE department, visited the boys’ boarding school of St Mary’s College in Kisubi, as well as several primary schools. They trained 24 boys as sports leaders as the first stage of a partnership. These new leaders then ran sports festivals for more than 80 children at each primary school.

Mr Jones said: “The development of leadership skills in young people is very important to us. We were delighted to use our experience among students and staff who were so very keen to learn from us.”
