St George's tea at St Paul's

A TRADITIONAL English tea to celebrate St Georges day was served to approximately thirty members of the congregation and friends of St Paul's Evangelical Free Church in Wickham Avenue.

The sumptuous spread, which included salmon and cucumber sandwiches, fairy cakes, and a Victoria sponge, was prepared by a the talented catering team headed by Marion Bennett.

After the tea the congregation sang a variety of well-known patriotic songs including, The White Cliffs of Dover , There'll Always Be An England, and Rule Britannia, ending with the National Anthem.

This is the fourth year St Paul's has held the tea and it's a tradition the Reverend Dr Peter Gadsden and wife Janet hope to continue.

He said: "We have the tea to celebrate St Georges day because we're British and we're patriotic".

There was an added bonus for the ladies who had done all the hard work preparing the tea, as the Deacon did the washing-up.
