St Mary's pupils best day out

A group of 11 year olds from St Mary's school had the chance to see the Sussex Police force helicopter and meet the underwater search team in Shoreham on a day out with Bexhill Neighbourhood police.

Inspector James Scott commented: "We all shared a successful day which started with a

talk about the force helicopter and its equipment.

"The children had a chance to sit within the aircraft and have their photographs taken. This

culminated in the team being called out. We all stood and watched the team check the helicopter and prepare for take off. The helicopter took off, circled the landing area and lit the lights up before leaving.

"The excitement was almost too much as the children all stopped for a drink before the talk about the underwater search team. Brett and his colleague gave an excellent talk about their tasks and the equipment.

This was aimed at the right level for understanding and they allowed the children to try on some equipment. We all left the hangar with a sense of happiness. We all stopped on the perimeter road for a picnic where the force helicopter returned and waved as they passed.

"In all, this was a great experience. The children were very well behaved. The school later said that they had the best day ever."
