Stage set for an iconic addition to Littlehampton seafront

WORK is well underway on a project that will be a welcome addition to Littlehampton’s iconic seafront landscape.

Construction of the Stage by the Sea, at The Green, has started. Once completed, it will offer a new outdoor performance space for summertime band concerts and performing arts displays.

The project was the vision of Littlehampton Town Council. The authority gave an initial investment of £40,000 for the stage. However, support was also received from Arun District Council and West Sussex County Council, rounding the total amount of investment up to £90,000.

Project manager Clare Potter, of Littlehampton Town Council, said: “It’s another iconic addition to Littlehampton’s seafront. Once completed it will join things like the longest bench.”

Councillor Paul Dendle, Arun’s cabinet member for environmental services, with responsibility for tourism, added: “I’m excited about the concept of the Stage by the Sea and I think that it gives Littlehampton a great opportunity to attract new tourism which is good for the local economy.”

The stage will be completed in November. An official opening will take place at Easter.
