Christmas is fast approaching and the Royal Mail and the Trading Standards Office are making the public aware of a particularly nasty scam: Please be aware of a card being posted through your door from a company called PDS ( Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on: 0906~6611911 ( a PREMIUM RATE NUMBER) If you do call this number and you start to hear a recorded message, you will already have been billed £315:00 for the ‘phone call !. If you do receive a card with these details on, -or any similiar ones,- then please contact ROYAL MAIL FRAUD on: 020~72396655 or CRIME STOPPERS on: 0800~555111.Please be aware that the Premium Rate Number may change, but nevertheless, please DO NOT CALL any number stated on a card from PDS. You may also wish to make any members of your family, together with your friends and neighbours aware of this horrid scam, made more unpleasant because of the Yuletide Season,-- Information Notice No: 2 is regarding Train Timetable changes for the Thameslink Programme and as you will know by now, as part of the £6.5 billion Thameslink Programme major works have already begun on the approaches to London Bridge. There will be significant changes to Southeastern Rail services as a result of this project. From 22nd December 2014. Southeastern Ashford/Rochester to Bedford trains will start and terminate at Blackfriars. For the three days between 22nd & 24th. December 2014, trains to Charing Cross will NOT stop at London Bridge in the mornings from 7;54 to 09;01. Some trains will be diverted to Blackfriars and there are NO Southern or Thameslink train services to or from London Bridge from Saturday 20th December until Sunday 4th January 2015. From January 12th. next year, Charing Cross services will NOT stop at

LUNCHEON CLUB: Although we may have partaken of many a Christmas lunch over the preceeding days of this festive season, there is always room for another, especially if it is taken and enjoyed amongst friends. Members of the small, but so nice and friendly Staplecross. Luncheon Club will be meeting, greeting and eating at the Village Hall, Staplecross on Wednesday.December 17th at 12.30pm . Sitting down to enjoy, as always, a superb Christmas Lunch, with all the trimmings,followed by a yummy Christmas Pudding, again with all the trimmings. Enjoying a delicious meal at any time, amongst congenial company, must be a pleasure to enjoy time and again. Why not consider joining us for one of these. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and alternative menus can be arranged to suit your needs. The cost is a measly £5:50 per person and worth every penny.You have to be ‘of a certain age (-Over 50 years young)- plus you get waited on hand, foot, fist & finger.!. CAROLS ON THE GREEN: An ‘Open Invitation’ is being extended to all and sundry - especially the residents of Ewhurst Parish to come along and join in the celebrations of Christmas in a beautiful and tradition manner. There will be “Christmas Carols on the Green”- around the simply decorated Christmas tree on the green,- in Ewhurst Green ! -. Taking place on Friday December 19th this lovely little festive occasion will commence at 6pm with the cold, frosty air, being dispelled with the happy sound of voices telling the magical, blessed story of Christmas, in song, for all to hear. There will be Mulled Wine and Mince Pies, for those who come to sing, and these will no doubt will be very warmly welcomed by one and all. This little village celebration has been taking place in Ewhurst Green for a number of years, and even the heavy snow, on at least two occasions, did not deter the stalwart singers from taking part and enjoying this special Yuletide Celebration. Everyone is welcome to attend - the more the merrier - The words to the carols are provided as are the candles, although you may prefer to bring your own torch, or lantern to read the words by. A small collection is made in aid of the Churches of the parish. Please try to stop by and join in, if only for a short while. Nothing tells the story of Christmas quite like a Nativity - unless it’s told by songs sung around a Christmas tree - on the Green ! GARDEN SOCIETY CHRISTMAS PARTY: The Ewhurst, Staplecross & Bodiam Garden Society will be holding their own Christmas Party on Friday December 19th. This little gathering will take place on Friday December 19th at 7pm. and promises to be a super, fun evening. Along with the delicious and enticing buffet available, including Mulled Wine & Mince Pies, there will be lots to entertain you throughout the evening, - including a super raffle table, and a variety of quiz’s to make you moan or groan, when given the answers!. This, small but very friendly group of people have a superb programme in hand for next year, with a wide and varied selection of Speakers, two annual Horticultural Shows, (-not just gardening entries !) and some very interesting outings, - all hopefully to encourage or entice other like minded people who have an interest in all things horticultural or anyone who just likes “a bit of gardening!”. New members are always made very welcome, so why not make this one of your New Year Resolutions ? and consider becoming a member ? OUT & ABOUT: Christmas is slowly and surely sneaking up on us, and before you know it, it’ll be upon us and we’ll be buried amongst a flurry of sellotape, wrapping paper, tags, and presents. But before you succumb, - and it happens to us all, - why not take some time out and enjoy one of these Christmas Celebration suggestions; - Why not enjoy a winter afternoon at Chiddingstone Castle, near Edenbridge in Kent. This is a charming place, just right to enjoy an afternoon “tea at 3” (pm) and this is what will happen on Sunday 14th and 21st December. There is a separate charge for Santa visits, which must be booked in advance. SANTA FUN RUN: This you’ve got to see ! - Calling all Santa’s Little Helpers, - come and join in this feastive event and dress as Santa, or your favourite Christmas or pantomime character. The date is Sunday December 14th. and the venue is at Alexandra Park, Hastings at 10.0am - by The Bandstand. There’ll be prizes for the best fancy dress and you can choose either the 2k or the 5k run. Dogs are very welcome. A £5:00 registration fee in advance (-or £8:00 on the day) plus of course, you’re encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as you can, because this is in aid of such a good cause. Santa costumes will be available to purchase on the day from only £3:75. There will be an opportunity to meet Father Christmas and receive a lovely gift for only £2:00. Hot refreshments will be available from ‘Eat @ the Park’ cafe. So please come along and join in this hugely enjoyable event. Monies collected will go to St. Michaels Hospice. CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT: This is a special event when people from all around, not just from our local parish, come together to sing carols telling the true Christmas Story, in a beautiful surroundings, in peace and harmony with friends and families. Taking place on Saturday December 20th. at 6pm and all within the tranquil setting of St. James the Great church, Ewhurst Green. You’ll be amongst friends, old and new, so please come along and sing with us... or just come along and enjoy the atmosphere and congenial company.

CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will commence at the church of St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday December 14th. Advent 3. at 9.30am. This service will also include Holy Communion (BCP) A Morning Praise service will follow directly after at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross at 11.15.am. There will be NO SERVICE at St. Giles church, in Bodiam on this day.
