Making the most of this unreliable ‘typically English’ Spring weather we are all experiencing at present, are the stalwart members of the Rother Ramblers. Never ones to let a little bit of rain dampen their spirits, they have two more delightful walks to entice us to join in with them and enjoy this glorious countryside of ours. The first walk arranged is 5.5 mile, circular ramble around Northiam and Beckley. Arranged for Saturday May 3rd the group will be meeting at 9.30am in the central car park in Northiam.(SatNavTN316NB) There will be a short refreshment stop midway and as per usual, your dog will be able to accompany you. Our second meander around this special part of East Sussex is a 9 mile stroll entitled “Across the Seven Sisters to West Dean.” This is a lovely area at any time of the year and if you would like to join in please meet up with your fellow walkers in the village car park in East Dean (SatNavBN200DA) on Sunday May 11th at 10.0am. This time a more leisurely break is proposed in the form of a picnic lunch and of course, your four footed friend can walk with you. As with all walks with this very friendly social outdoor group, please make yourself known to the ‘walk leader’, who would be so pleased to introduce you to your fellow companions on these outings. It’s always so much nicer to be able to chat with new friends whilst doing something that you enjoy.It’s just the right time of the year for trying out something new as well, so make those new steps into a stroll and see where those footsteps lead you.

Those merry maids of Staplecross & Ewhurst Green W.I. will be meeting up once more for an important date in their calender. In their May meeting they will discuss their selection of the resolution that will be put to the government in an attempt to bring about a change for the better in the lives of many of the British public. This year, the resolution concerns organ donors. This very highly emotive subject will be discussed fully with tact and dignity and will cover any of the fears and fallacies that surround this heart-breaking decision and hopefully, will show, that through organ donation, it will allow hundreds of other people to be given another chance to lead a full and worthwhile new life. In addition to the Resolutions, a speaker, sadly delayed from our February meeting with be entrancing us with his talk on “Ticket to Ride” Mr. Paul Lendon will be taking us all for a ride on the Orient Express.~ which sadly, will probably be the closest I’ll ever come to actually doing this trip in real life! Along with our justly famous afternoon teas, and warm, friendly companionship, what more could you ask for in an all female social group. This meeting will be held at 2.30pm on Tuesday May 6th at their usual meeting place which is St. Marks’ church room, Northiam Road, Staplecross. Staplecross Bowls Club have a very busy May month ahead of them in the form of several matches planned. Continuing with their new programme, we find the teams at home at the Club house ground in Northiam Road, Staplecross on Sunday May 4th beginning at 2.30pm against Hawkhurst and home again on Wednesday May 7th at 2.30pm this time against Sidley Martlets. Thursday May 8th finds them away to Northiam and Saturday May 10th the teams are also away, this time their opponents are Winchelsea. The club are back again, on home soil for their 2.30pm match against Rotherfield on Sunday May 11th. If you are passing, go along on any of their home matches at their Sports Ground in Northiam Road, Staplecross and QUIETLY support them. I’m sure they’d appreciate the support - you may even consider becomming a member.

Ewhurst Parish Council will be holding their next meeting on Thursday May 9th.at their usual meeting place, St. Marks’ Church Room, Northiam Road, Staplecross. Beginning at 7.30pm. this is an open meeting therefore members of the public and press, are cordially invited to attend. This will give you the opportunity to ‘air’ any queries or matters of concerns that you may have and speak directly to a representative from Rother Council and East Sussex County Council as well as your local parish council. There is normally a member of the PCSO also in attendance to whom you may wish to direct any matters for Police concern. Ewhurst & Staplecross Bonfire Society are holding their weekly ‘Beetle Drive’ on Saturday May 11th in the Staplecross Village Hall. Starting at 6pm this promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening ~ if not becoming a madcap, mayhem evening with the players becoming ever more excited as their ‘beetles’ progress to their final glory. This is a warm and very friendly social meeting, with great fun had by all, so why not consider coming along and having a game or two, ( or more!) ~ It’s great fun !

A few Dates for your Diaries: Mobile Library is due again soon~ Thursday May 15th. The Staplecross Luncheon Club will be serving up another delectable dish on Wednesday 21st May and The Ewhurst, Staplecross & Bodiam Garden Society will be holding their next meeting on FRIDAY May 23rd.

The Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will begin at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green at 9.30am service which will include Holy Communion. There will be followed by a Family Service at St. Giles at Bodiam at 11.15am. There will be NO SERVICE at St. Marks church, Staplecross on this day. With another Bank Holiday coming up for us all to enjoy, I hope that whatever you are planning turns out just right.
