Stationery store closing down

A LARGE town centre stationery store is closing down.Seven employees at Friday-Ad have been told their jobs will go when the company sells the Western Road building.

The sale, apparently to a property developer, has not yet been finalised and no closure date has been announced.

Workers were told three weeks ago that they were being made redundant.

Only two qualify for redundancy pay and only one has another job to go to.

Manager Sam Izzard, 25, of Kinver Lane, said of the closure: "That is all they have told us, that it has been sold to a property developer and that we have all been made redundant.

"They said basically the shop has been sold so we have not got jobs anymore."

The space above the shop which is currently staff room and toilets will be turned into flats, Sam has heard.

The potential loss of the store has been met with disappointment from customers.

Sam said: "We have had so many people say it is such a shame for it to go."

Friday-Ad director Jeff Wendon could not reveal what the prospective buyers planned for the building.

He did confirm there were no plans to open a Friday-Ad anywhere else in Bexhill.
