Steyning Jazz Club opens the New Year in style
Steyning Jazz Club opens its New Year in style on Friday, January 2 welcoming the internationally-acclaimed clarinettist Adrian Cox and his Trio.
Club spokesman Colin Jilks said: “Adrian is a leading authority on New Orleans music, bringing an authentic and electrifying voice to the idiom.
“As a celebrated exponent of the genre, Adrian has dedicated his career to preserving and pushing the boundaries of early jazz, earning praise for his masterful technique, deep historical knowledge and infectious energy on stage.
“Adrian will be performing with his outstanding trio featuring the New Zealand-born guitarist Honey Boulton and Parisian bassist Alex Gilson, providing a truly world class and deeply moving power house of music which has been leaving audiences spellbound.
“The evening will feature his new CLUB CROCO album which delves into alternative repertoire from the early jazz era, capturing and expressing the timeless essence of the music, all delivered with an abundance of charisma and flair by Adrian and his trio.
“Adrian Cox has the ability to engage with his audience both on and off-stage, with an unrivalled feel for his material of choice. Combining this with a virtuosic technique has led him to widespread critical acclaim, including Time Out declaring him to be ‘London’s most charismatic reedsman’ and jazz superstar and BBC broadcaster Jamie Cullum describing him as ‘indisputably one of the great clarinettists of the world.’ Now based in Sweden, Adrian looks forward to touring the new work with his trio throughout Scandinavia, Europe, New Zealand and Australia, with multiple dates confirmed across these regions and further afield.
“The concert opens Steyning's new 2026 season and, being January, is also the club's membership renewal evening. Doors open early at 7pm, so join us in a complimentary glass of fine wine and renew your membership for the coming year: annual membership remains at £15, which allows entry to all subsequent 2026 concerts for £10.
