Steyning Jazz Club welcomes The Charlotte Glasson Band

Spokesman Colin Jilks said: “Charlotte Glasson is a multi-instrumentalist, band leader and session player, playing all the saxophones, flutes, clarinet, bass clarinet, violin and viola. She is making an especially welcome return to Steyning with her band to celebrate her new album, Cosmo’s Cosmos. This is her eighth album, mining a rich seam of Latin and world music influences: sunshine music, woven with smiles.

“Her versatile contemporary jazz and diverse originals are all laced with her bluesy, expressive sax work; indeed, her witty exuberant, genre defying, music restores one’s faith in true jazz. The band line-up for the evening will be: Charlotte Glasson, saxes; Mark Bassey, trombone; Chris Kibble, piano; Lloyd Coote, sousaphone and double bass; and Sam Glasson, drums.

“As well as running her own band, Charlotte is currently on tour with The Waeve and Stornaway where her skills with her tenor sax, flutes, violin and viola are always in demand. Charlotte has also played and toured with The Divine Comedy, Clare Martin, Nick Cave, Ian Shaw and Chris Hodgkins. Her experience and extensive musical vocabulary are subtle and endlessly versatile. With her own music, she is able to draw inspiration freely from the rich lineage of contemporary jazz composers, although she wears these influences lightly.

“Fuelled by the travel bug, her music finds inspiration from across the globe. The textures are seemingly conjured from gossamer, hanging gently on a summer breeze, delicately touched by birdsong. Evocative of hazy summer days, running through fields of scented grass, the blades gently squeezing between your toes; this is music to dream with.”
