Storrington set for big business makeover day

STORRINGTON businesses are launching a ‘Storrington Spring Clean’ community campaign on Sunday March 11 to let visitors know that Storrington is very much open for business.

It’s the smaller things such as clean windows and doors, attractive window displays and the pavements conditions that determine whether a customer will be enticed into a business, or even walk down a street.

The spring clean initiative is about businesses working together to ensure Storrington is squeaky clean with a centre that businesses, residents and visitors can be proud of.

The Storrington and Sullington Community Partnership have signed up many businesses to the event, which is supported by Horsham District Council, West Sussex County Council, and Storrington and Sullington Parish Council.

Horsham District Council will be supporting with a small programme of works to sweep and remove chewing gum from the streets before and after the event.

The Storrington Business Breakfast Club aims to embark on a number of other initiatives towards building and maintaining the village’s vibrancy, to include the introduction of hanging baskets for businesses and a business windows campaign with optional coaching sessions from retail specialists.

Richard Messenger, proprietor of the Moon Bar and Restaurant on the high street, hosts and chairs the monthly Storrington Business Breakfast Club meetings, from which the spring clean initiative was born.

Richard is passionate about Storrington and all of its businesses and said: “Showing the outside world that we care about our village will help us all to push forward in these difficult times.

“I am really impressed that so many other traders have embraced this idea and can see the benefits. This could be the point of difference that makes someone choose Storrington as a place to visit.”

Waitrose has committed to the campaign through their ‘Community Matters’ scheme in which the public use tokens to vote for their favourite of three local causes, with a £1,000 fund split accordingly.

They are also pulling together volunteers for the day and have committed to producing an in-store leaflet promoting local businesses.
