Student Police Officers join the ranks

TWENTY two Student Police Officers have joined East Sussex Division and were recently attested at Bexhill Town Hall.

The officers will spend the next 43 weeks studying for a Foundation Certificate In Policing In Partnership with Communities.

Following this they will be posted to a Neighbourhood Policing Team on one of the five East Sussex Districts (Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Rother and Wealden).

The attestation was conducted by Mrs Carole Shaves MBE JP who is a member of the Sussex Police Authority.

Inspector Julia Pope, of the Professional Development Unit was present for the attestations, along with the East Sussex Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Nick Wilkinson, who welcomed them to the Division and set out the standards expected in their new careers.

The Sussex Police Student Officer Programme started in April 2006 and involves periods of study at University followed by placements on a Division where the Student Officers put in to practice what they have learnt.
