Students help create job site

Pathway Steps to Success was developed by students in the area with the support and guidance of professionals from CoastalWestSussexJobs.com, along with councils, businesses and schools and colleges.

The online resource was launched at the University of Chichester’s Dome Conference Centre this month, hosted by its vice-chancellor, Clive Behagg.

Felpham student Reece Osborn, 15, said: “This has been such an engaging project to work on.

“It has taught me many life lessons that I know will transfer 
into the professional world.

“Learning teamwork, time management and communication skills will really benefit me after school when I look to move into the world of work.

“The relationships I have built with employers and professionals have been invaluable.”

The students were presented with their certificates of achievement by Caroline Wood, the Coastal West Sussex Partnership director.

She said: “I’ve been delighted to support this project on behalf of the partnership.

“It’s been a great opportunity for these young people to be involved in a live project that will actually be used by hundreds of others and, at the same time, allowing them to learn and practise new skills that will prepare them for the world of work.”

CoastalWestSussexJobs.com is available to schools, colleges and young people.

Natalie Walker, the people and development manager at Goodwood, is one of the 24 employers who have supported the development of Pathway.

“Working with these young people has shown me how much potential they have in a workplace,” she said.

“They are hardworking, resilient, passionate and creative.”

CoastalWestSussexJobs.com senior partnerships manager Georgina Angele said: “This project is a fantastic collaboration between schools, businesses and local authorities which will help prepare young people for work.”
