Students in Bognor Regis get inside track into politics

AN INSIDER'S guide to politics inspired a group of Bognor Regis students.

Baroness O’Cathain met with 40 sixth form students and Year 11 history students at The Regis School to talk about the House of Lords.

She spent an hour talking about the work and role of the peers. This was followed by a question and answer session on various aspects of the parliamentary process and life at Westminster generally.

Sixth former Claire Bourner said: “It was insightful and informative and has encouraged me to study politics in higher education”.

Adam Osborne, the school’s head of sixth form, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”

The visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s Peers in Schools programme to give talks in support of the citizenship curriculum.
