Successful book stalls for hospice

BOOK stalls organised by Shoreham and Southwick Rotary Club in aid of Chestnut Tree House are proving popular.

Sale tables have been set up at branches of Barclays bank in Shoreham, Southwick and now Lancing.

The first phase at the Southwick Square branch, which launched the scheme in July, is now complete, having raised £250 for the children’s hospice.

Rotarian Les Baker said the club hoped the book stall would return to the branch in the new year.

Meanwhile, sales at the Shoreham High Street branch continue to do well.

Mr Baker added: “All we have to do is keep up the book supply, which we are managing to do with much help from generous people passing books on to us.”

Barclays has just agreed to set up a sale table in Lancing, at the North Road branch, and the club is in the process of setting it up.

Mr Baker said: “We and Chestnut Tree House are indebted to them for their help with this project of ours.

“Banks have had a lot of bad press of late but our local Barclays branches have proved that they are not all bad and their charitable attitude means so much to us and Chestnut Tree House, who are still seeing the ongoing benefit.”

There is a variety of books, which are regularly checked club members, and books can be purchased for a donation.
