Summer sun shines for Jamie’s Wish fun day

Hundreds of people flocked to join the Jamie’s Wish fun day, at Linden Park.

All the day’s action raised a total of £3,237 which left organisers of the event overwhelmed.

“I just can’t say thank-you enough,” said Tracey Terry. “Everyone has always supported us and it means so to us. The money is very import and this is our biggest event of the year, so we really rely on it.”

Jamie’s Wish was founded after Tracey’s son, Jamie, died in June 2007 following a three-year battle against a brain tumour.

The charity has since been granting the wishes of other young people, suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

This year’s fundraiser saw a whole range of attractions for families to sink their teeth into.

The often-popular dog show had an unusually slim number of entries with just five people competing.

This year’s winner of the competition – which was judged by the Littlehampton Carnival Queen and princesses – was Dave the dog.

However, one competition which didn’t struggle to get entries was the baby show.

“It was brilliant, we must have had two full pages of entries,” said Tracey. “That’s about 30 people at least. It was very popular.”

The champion of the show was Archie Dorey.

The new addition to this year’s fundraiser, the glamorous granny show, also proved popular, with some ten entries competing.

Judged by Jamie’s own glamorous granny, Winifred Terry, the champion this year was Louise Pereira.

Tracey added: “The whole day was brilliant. We were quite lucky because it rained the day before and day after. It went brilliantly.”

Other attractions included face-painting from horror movie make-up experts Maggot Pie, displays from the likes of the Sussex Tornados cheerleaders and a shoot-out with Pro Coaching Football Academy.

Tracey wanted to thank those who donated gifts for the raffle and helped the event.

She added that plans were already underway to make next year’s event bigger and better than ever before.

“Next year will be the 10th anniversary and my daughter wants us to go bigger than ever,” she said.
