Sussex Police prepares for strike action

Sussex Police say ‘everything is in place for those who wish to demonstrate peacefully’ in Horsham tomorrow (Wednesday November 30).

Officers across the county will have a presence at planned marches and protests as part of a collective day of strike action.

Chief Superintendent Paul Morrison is leading the police operation. He said: “Sussex Police will, as always, facilitate what is anticipated to be a peaceful day of protest and will protect the rights and freedom of others to go about their lawful business without fear of threats, intimidation or unreasonable disruption.

“In Brighton there is expected to be a large march and protest, with demonstrations also planned for Worthing, Horsham and Hastings. We have been engaging with the organisers, who have been very co-operative and have informed us of their planned routes and activities. This has helped us plan for the events, although exact numbers of protesters are unknown.

“Everything is in place for those who wish to demonstrate peacefully within Sussex and I would encourage protesters planning to be out for the day to prepare for the cold weather. We are keen that they can express their views but I would ask parents and carers to speak to their children and make sure they understand the environment they will be entering.

“We do not anticipate any problems during the Sussex events however, we will not condone illegal acts as a way of voicing discontent. Our aim is to provide a safe and secure environment for protesters and to prevent crime and disorder.”

Sussex Police has added information of the planned protests and marches due to take place in Sussex on its website, with details of routes and road closures.
