Sussex Rotary clubs raise cash for hospice

ROTARY clubs from all over Sussex have raised £7,000 for St Peter and St James Hospice.

In August the Rotarians and supporters took part in Hike 4 Hospices, a two-day sponsored charity walk over the South Downs from Lewes to Goodwood.

The event was in aid of all four hospices in Sussex and featured more than 220 walkers.

On January 15 representatives from a number of Rotary groups presented the cheque to the hospice.

Colin Burgess, chief executive at St Peter and St James, said: 'We are delighted to receive this money from the Hike 4 Hospices event and I would like to thank all of the Rotary Clubs involved and the walkers who took part and did such a splendid job raising their sponsorship.

'Of course Rotary Clubs do so much for us throughout the year and we are extremely grateful for their ongoing support.'

The event was a such a success, Hike 4 Hospices 2008 has already been planned on August 16 and 17.

Walkers can choose from a number of routes, the shortest is five miles and the longest, 14 miles.

Special medals will be awarded to all participants and there will be individual and team prizes for those who raise the most sponsorship.
