Tea party helps Battle seniors

A TEA party has helped to raise several hundred pounds to help the senior citizens of Battle.

Wilma Hodge held the highly successful event in the town recently.

Wilma said: “The people of Battle are unfailingly generous and it is such a pleasure to prepare an afternoon tea party for them so that we can all help a local charity.

“This year it was the turn of Battle and District Social Club (Age Concern) which is a small group which meets to offer companionship to older people in Battle and to provide practical assistance where possible.

The sun shone, nearly 50 guests came and together we raised over £600, a great result by any standards.”

Wilma is the wife of a retired diplomat, so she is used to entertaining.

But she adds “I couldn’t undertake these parties without the help and support of friends in the town. They lend me garden furniture, cutlery and crockery and help me serve the food and the tea on the day.

“It’s truly a team effort.”
