Team prepare for Channel relay

AFTER many months of hard training, Battle residents Ben Arnold, Andy Dalton and team captain Mike Ellis, will embark on an attempt to swim across the English Channel as part of a five man relay team.

All the swimmers, who are members of Hastings and Bexhill RFC, will swim in one hour cycles until they cover the 20 miles from Dover to Calais.

With an anticipated completion time of anything between 13 and 18 hours, the team have a weather window of August 7-12, during which they hope for calm seas, light winds and favourable tides to make the journey less daunting.

In order to keep up team spirits and energy levels, the team has received local support from Battle butcher Alistar, who has sponsored the team with a healthy supply of the famous Battle Bangers.

With the team officially registered by the Channel Swimmers Association as Harold’s Revenge, the men hope to raise funds for the BLESMA charity.

Team captain Mike Ellis said: “We are really very grateful to Battle Butchers for this kind gesture, and for their support.

“I know the team will perform well fuelled on by the Battle Bangers.”
