CTLA: (Community Transport Charity) have become members of the national Campaign to End Loneliness. The Campaign to End Loneliness is a network of organisations and people working together through community action to ensure that loneliness is acted upon as a public health priority at national and local levels. Loneliness and social isolation are harmful to our health: research shows that lacking social connections is as damaging to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. 17 percent of older people are in contact with family, friends and neighbours less than once a week and 11 percent are in contact less than once a month. As the only provider of accessible community transport covering the Lewes District, CTLA combats isolation and loneliness by providing door to door transport, a social travel club, healthcare transport and group support for other charities and groups such as the Scouts and Guides and many more. Membership is free for all services. To find out more about the services of CTLA, visit www.ctla.org.uk or call 01273 517332.

FOOTNOTES: Now I am a patient soul. I queue quietly to be served, I wait patiently in doctor’s waiting rooms, whilst those in front of me dither and fuss over appointment dates, etc. But my patience was sorely tried this week, when trying to contact the council on the phone. When the reception phone is finally answered, I ask to be put through to Garden Waste dept. There is then an alarming series of clicks, buzzes and other odd noises and then there is the regular ringing sound, which goes on for some minutes before I discover I have been put back to reception. This merry-go-round went on for some ten minutes or so before I gave up and took to e-mailing a caustic message to their customer services. In fairness I then received a telephone call within the hour apologising and explaining that the phone system was being replaced, because of the amount of complaints they were receiving. Very nice young man, who sorted out my problem about delivery of their new garden waste bin, and the afore-mentioned bin was delivered the following day. Ah, the miracle of the internet. How did we get on before computers? Sat and put up with it all, I suppose. The bin is splendid and the kind man who comes to do my garden for me, was delighted as well. Although early afternoon, I have the light on writing this and the sky outside looks sullen and overcast. However the forecast is good for next week, so enjoy whatever sun we get and go safely.
