Thieves steal ARRC charity box

THIEVES who stole from a disabled charity in Rye have been described as “the lowest of the low”.

They distracted staff at the Glass Etc shop, at Ropewalk, on Sunday afternoon to snatch the ARRCC charity box which contained up to £500.

The shop is run by Antiques Roadshow expert Andy McConnell who explained: “We are great supporters of ARRC and we have the box in our shop to encourage people to make a donation in return for a free valuation.

People have been generous and the box could easily have contained £400 - $500. You cannot get much lower than stealing from handicapped people. It brings tears to my eyes to think someone could do this.”

ARRCC provides respite care and activities for disabled people in the Rye area, running a special centre.

Their successful ARRCC Elders service specialises in working with people over 65.

Their aim is to enable members to develop abilities, learn new skills and reduce social exclusion.
