Thieves target charity shops

BEXHILL police are concerned that criminals appear to be targeting charity shops in the town. Oxfam's shop in Western Road has been broken into twice, with a burglary over the weekend of April 30 and May 2 possibly linked to a break-in at the Citizens' Advice Bureau in Endwell Road.

Also hit, between 1pm and 3pm on Thursday, May 5 was the RSPCA store in Western Road, where cash was stolen from an office, most likely by an opportunist thief walking in off the street. Detectives are investigating.

Dan Russell, Bexhill police’s community sergeant, said such shops were additionally a favourite for pickpockets taking advantage of browsers. He said: “Please be aware that purse thieves do target these shops. Please always have your purse or wallet secure at all times.”
