Thirty Bognor Regis workers axed as another firm goes bust

Thirty workers in Bognor Regis appear to have lost their jobs after a company went into administration.

The administrators were called into MH Technical Mouldings in Dickinson Place on December 23.

The immediate impact of the decision was limited because the firm was about to close down for a lengthy Christmas and new-year break.

But attempts to contact it this weekwere unsuccessful. Its telephone number was temporarily out of order and no-one answered personal callers to its offices on Tuesday afternoon.

Robert May, of the administrators Vantis, said: "I am looking for new operators of the company. I will try to sell the business as a whole. If I am not successful, I will have to sell it piecemeal."

An angry member of staff, who asked not to be identified, claimed the workforce was informed about the company's difficulties a week before Christmas.

"We have not received any holiday pay we are owed or any redundancy pay," the employee alleged.

"We just got a leaflet advising us to sort out the situation for ourselves. We were told to consider ourselves redundant."

MH Technical Mouldings was formed more than 35 years ago.

It had grown to occupy a 50,0000sq ft-plus site on the Durban Road industrial estate.

Its buildings were said to house some of the latest machinery and plant available, with press ranges from 22 tonne to 520 tonne. Most of it was fitted with robotics.

The company's expertise was in project management, product design, injection moulding, plastic finishing, rapid prototyping and prototype tooling.

Its customers were involved in industries as diverse as medical, automotive, white goods, telecoms, lighting and aerospace.

A highlight of the company's existence was the achievement of world class toolmaking status in 1998 to put it into the top segment of UK toolmakers.

This was an initiative to grade the country's toolmakers and covered all dimensions of the work from equipment to training and management.
