Ezra and Caleb White, aged seven and nine, were each moved to raise money hoping to add a cousin to the family tree. Their aunt and uncle, Kim and Andrew, live in America where adoption costs run into thousands of pounds.

Last month Ezra completed a 10k run while Caleb attempted the Three Peaks challenge, but could only completed two of the three mountains due to treacherous weather conditions. Plans are under way for a second attempt next year.

Dan, who accompanied his sons on their feats, said: “Ez did it in one hour, 25 minutes, which isn’t a bad time for a first 10k, especially when you’re only seven year old. Unlike Caleb’s attempt at the Three Peaks, the weather on Saturday was lovely, and we ran well together. Ez found it hard, but never gave up. I’m very proud of him.

“He, I and my brother and sister-in-law Andrew and Kim are all very grateful to any and all of you who generously sponsored Ezra or Caleb.

“They have raised nearly $2,000 between them: an impressive amount that will make a real difference to the birth mother’s medical treatment and options.

“As to what challenge we shall dream up next, Caleb’s comment on seeing the new mountain tragedy movie Everest in the cinema last week was ‘Well, that makes me want to climb Everest’.”
