Threat of 16,000 new homes

MORE than 16,000 new homes could be forced on Arun over the next 20 years following the submission of a second eco-town proposal for Ford.

Concerned councillors have also reacted angrily to suggestions by the Ford Enterprise Hub, the latest applicants, that the new scheme is a 'community based initiative'.

The Ford Enterprise Hub has made the claim in its submission to the Secretary of State but Cllr Ricky Bower, Arun cabinet member, said: "The council wishes to make clear that the proposal is not being promoted by the 'community of Arun'.

All three promoters are former councillors, none of whom represented the Ford area, therefore they represent no-one but themselves." He added: "Pertinently, neither eco-town proposal will deliver the long-awaited and much-needed Arundel by-pass, which we see as crucial to the success of these plans."
