Three people taken to hospital after fire in Worthing block of flats

Three people were taken to hospital after a fire at a block of flats in Worthing.

An oven fire in a flat in Cambourne Court, Shelley Road, led to the building being filled with smoke. Firefighters were called at around 3.30pm on Sunday, April 19, and crews were sent from Worthing Fire Station, East Preston, Shoreham, Littlehampton, Hove and Brighton, along with a drone and the incident command unit from Bognor Regis. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man from the property, and the fire was brought under control using one high pressure hose reel, one CO2 extinguisher, and one smoke curtain. Crews remained at the scene until 5.30pm. The building was evacuated, but some residents needed the fire services’ help to get out. According to the ambulance service, two women and a man were suffering from smoke inhalation, and at least two were taken to Worthing Hospital for further checks. Police cordoned off the road during the incident.
