Tim Best, 42, from Burgess Hill was nominated for the National Fitness Awards ‘Member Achievement Award’ award by the Freedom Leisure team at The Triangle where he is both a member and an employee.

Tim had been morbidly obese at 30 stone before gastric band surgery helped him to lose seven stone.

He then joined The Triangle on its GP Referral programme to help him lose more weight and embrace a healthier lifestyle.

He lost four stone in 18 months through careful exercise and changes to his diet.

This is an achievement in itself, but it is not why he was nominated for the award.

Tim is using his own experience to help other people who are struggling, as he struggled, with being overweight.

Knowing only too well how it feels to be so self-conscious you physically cannot step into a changing room, let alone wear swimming gear for an exercise class, Tim trained with Freedom Leisure Training as an Aqua Fit instructor.

He teaches these classes at The Triangle and The Dolphin and encourages people into the pool by sharing his experience of weight loss.

He is also now studying with Freedom Leisure Training as a personal trainer and indoor cycling instructor and wants to conduct GP referral programmes.
