Timeline: Teville Gate woes span years

AS NEWS of Teville Gate being sold to a new developer breaks this morning, the Herald takes a look at the recent history of the troubled site.

September, 2011: Worthing Borough Council gives outline approval to a £150 million development, to include a cinema, conference centre, hotels and supermarket.

August, 2012: Developers Hanson Capital Management renews its commitment to the development, despite delays to starting the work. It is unable to provide a new start date, however. Click here for the coverage.

December, 2012: Comet, which had a unit on the site, closes down.

April, 2013: The site is mistakenly advertised for sale on real estate website Savills. It is later removed and Hanson deny it was purposely uploaded.

April, 2014: Homes developer Persimmon express an interest in developing the site, should it become available.

July, 2014: The extent of the problems with the site are revealed, with the Irish Government known to have an interest. The site is in control of an official receiver and a new buyer is sought Click here for the coverage.

August, 2014: The community gives Teville Gate a colourful spruce-up, frustrated at the lack of action.

September, 2014: Planners approve a temporary dog kennels application for the site but stress it must move if a developer is found.

April, 2015: A new buyer is found.
