Town becomes tourism hub for district

RYE became the main centre for tourism in the district this week when its Information Centre was named as Rother Council’s tourism hub.

The news came as Rother awarded the contract to run its tourist information centres to Tourism South East.

The company will provide information for visitors across the district, consisting of one larger ‘hub’ tourist information centre in Rye, two satellite offices in Bexhill and Battle, plus a number of more local information points located in villages across the district.

Rye Tourist Information Centre will remain in its present location in Lion Street.

The locations of the two satellite information points and local information points are still to be decided by Tourism South East. The Rye hub TIC will be open seven days a week throughout the year, providing literature, face-to-face customer service and accommodation bookings. Peter Colling, from Tourism South East said: “We want the service to encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more for the benefit of the whole economy.”
