Town centre car park set to go

A SHOREHAM car park is set to be sold off '“ but Adur District Council says it won't mean loss of parking spaces in the town centre.

Instead, it plans to increase the number of parking spaces in the car park at Pond Road.

Age Concern, the Red Cross and the Adur Special Needs Project currently occupy Portakabins in this car park, but the council says these temporary buildings are dated and coming to the end of their lives.

It is hoped alternative space will be found in the town centre for these organisations.

This would leave the way clear to demolish the Portakabins and resurface the area for car parking.

A recommendation in a council report, which will be considered on Tuesday, wants an application to be made for permission to build three or four terraced houses on the Ship Street car park, pictured right.

The council would then be able to sell the land, with planning permission, for an estimated 250,000 to 350,000.
