Man dies after Hailsham hit-and-run collision

A cyclist has died after a collision in Hailsham last night (Thursday).

Police are searching for the driver of an unidentified car which made off from the scene in London Road.

The collision involved a bus, the car, and the 51-year-old local man, who was riding a bike.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened at the junction of London Road and Grovelands Road at around 7pm.

The unidentified car is reported to have made off from the scene and officers are keen to trace the driver or occupants of the vehicle involved.

Sussex Police say the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries have been reported.

Stagecoach has confirmed one of its buses was involved in the collision.

A spokesperson for the company said, “Our first thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly passed away.

“We will be working with the police on their full investigation into the circumstances of this incident.”

A section of the road was closed until approximately 6.30am this morning (Friday).
