AN ‘UNACCEPTABLE level of congestion’ will be created if plans for 750 homes at Whitehouse Farm are accepted without alterations.

That is the basis for Chichester City Council’s ‘strong objection’ for phase one of the 1,600-home application for land to the west of Chichester.

Speaking at a city council meeting last Wednesday, cllr Richard Ploughman said: “I think the thing which actually worries us most, and is very recent, is the proposed access route for construction vehicles for phase one.

“There’s only one proposed entrance into this new site, which is just off Old Broyle Road, just beyond the old railway bridge. There’s one entrance to serve the whole of this site, which is 750 houses.

I think this is very new information, the amount of construction traffic needed for 750 houses is a huge amount of lorries, who will all be going up that road.”

Cllr Ploughman added: “Without a second access to the site I think that is unacceptable.”

The site is within the Chichester local plan and 1,000 of the total 1,600 homes would be built by 2029.
