The closure will coincide with resurfacing works taking place in Battle Road, forcing more traffic onto The Ridge.

The Battle Road works, which started on July 13, are due to be completed on August 26. The road is closed to through traffic each day between 9am and 4pm from The Ridge West to Ashbrook Road, but open outside of those hours.

Little Ridge Avenue, however, will be closed to through traffic 24 hours a day.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained but they may have to take the diversion.

East Sussex Highways said: “Traffic will be diverted via Harrow Lane, B2093 The Ridge, Hillside Road and vice versa.

“The road will be closed to through traffic. This is for your safety and the safety of our workers. If you do need vehicle access then please discuss this with the team on site. We will try to give access where we can but there may be long delays whilst we make the area safe. We will always allow access for emergency vehicles. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

“If it rains, we might be delayed in our works. We will keep you updated with any changes via advance warning signs.

“Please park your vehicle off road or in another location, otherwise your vehicle may be towed away. There will be ‘no parking’ signs and cones on site to advise where parking is restricted.

“We apologise if our works cause disruption to your bus service. Please check with the bus company for any alterations to the service during this time.

“We have informed your local council about these works. Your local District or Borough Council will let you know if there are any changes to your collection.

“We are working strictly in accordance with the latest government and industry advice to ensure our workers and the public remain safe, including; planning works to minimise contact between workers, workers are travelling to site alone, working at a safe distance from each other, regular hand washing and use of hand sanitiser, and use of enhanced cleaning procedures for vehicles and equipment. Please be considerate of our workers carrying out these works during this difficult time; they have a critical role in keeping our network safe and ensuring easy passage for other essential workers.”
